Book of the Month!

Now that school is out I’ve had more time to get back into reading for fun, and have found some awesome books while doing so. The first book I read this month is “The Power of Habit- Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business” by Charles Duhigg. Lately, I’ve noticed I’ve been falling out of my “healthy lifestyle” routine such as making excuses for skipping the gym and not making the best food choices. As much as I wanted to correct old routines, I also wanted to find ways to successfully create new ones, like saving money better. This book has helped me with inspiration and knowledge in both areas.

This book has a scientific element that explains how our brain processes different scenarios and how our actions from these form a habit – sometimes good and sometimes bad. I thought it was very well written by going into detail so the reader can fully understand the habit process without becoming too high of a level to follow. Not only did I learn about how I can create better habits, but it was also a fun read that opened to my eyes to the marketing side of the business world. It is amazing how some companies have placed certain products to work within our natural habits. Fun fact, Cinnabon purposely never puts their stores in the food court because they want their delicious (and taunting) smell to stand out to shoppers when walking by. Shoppers are cued by the smell to indulge in this sweet treat and as a result sales go up for Cinnabon. Tricky tricky.

Read it for yourself! You can buy the book .

Happy reading!

The Semester of a Lifetime

Although I was absolutely terrible about posting about all my abroad adventures, I did manage to have time to film them. I created a video starting from the beginning to the end of my semester in Europe. It is safe to say this was the semester of a lifetime, and I’m still trying to accept the fact that I am back in the US now. I miss Firenze with all my heart, and will always hold onto the amazing memories I made while abroad.

DIY Headband Rack

After working in fashion accessories at Nordstrom, I have accumulated more headbands than I know what to do with. I always had a problem of finding an organized way of storing my headbands, until I came across this idea. I took one basic can of Quaker Oats, and turned this into my own personal headband rack. I flipped through 3-4 magazines (Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Vogue, etc.), and clipped out some of my favorite colors/brands/patterns. Once I felt like I had enough, I began to put them together like a puzzle. I used more of the pattern and solid colored pieces as the background, and layered it with some of my favorite designer logos, cute sayings, etc. on the top. I used mod podge to glue everything together. I mainly used a paint brush to brush on the glue to the back of the clippings. After allowing a couple hours to dry, you have your own personal headband rack! Designed for you and free!

Healthy Girl Scout Tagalong Recipe

After being cooped up in my house all week (due to getting my wisdom teeth out), I thought it was time to try a new recipe! Because I have no self control when it comes to sweets and desserts, I figured it would be best to try a healthier alternative so I wouldn’t feel as guilty after eating 20 cookies. I have always been a HUGE fan of the blog Chocolate Covered Katie and knew I had to try something off her blog. I came across the healthy girl scout tagalong recipe and immediately began baking.

With everything said and done, saying I’m obsessed with this recipe is an understatement! Very easy to make, minimal ingredients, and guilt free (well almost). Try the recipe out yourself!

Out & About Look

This is the type of outfit I love wearing when I am out and about for the day! Whether it’s going to the mall or running a few errands, this outfit is perfect for bringing fashion and comfort together. To add that extra effortless touch, use a hot wand to add a few light curls. Out & About Look

Summer Night Look

One thing I love about summer fashion are the bright and vibrant shades you can incorporate into your outfits. One color I am obsessed with right now is coral. It does an amazing job of making this night time look pop with some extra color. I am officially ready to hit the town for a GNO this weekend!Girls Night Out

Easter Brunch

I had such a wonderful Easter filled with family, amazing food, and perfect weather. One reason I look forward to Easter so much is for our annual brunch at the Space Needle. Not only was the food delicious, but the view from our table was incredible. The brunch is broken down into three dishes, a starter, entree, and dessert. As you can see from the pictures I took, it was out of this world and I left feeling stuffed. Overall, an amazing day spent with the ones I love most. Happy Easter!
